Ivan Vance went to be with his Heavenly Father on September 13, 2014. Ivan was born on January 4, 1933 in Big Rock, Illinois to Howard and Irene Vance. He graduated from Piedmont High School at the age on 16. Ivan taught in a one room school before enlisting in the United States Air Force for 10 years. He went on to earn a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from North Texas University at the age of 40. Ivan was a Consultant for Education Service Center Region 10 for 37 years, until he retired at the age of 76. He was also a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology and a Licensed Professional Counselor. During those years, he served special educators and parents of special needs students in a nine county area, including Dallas County. He was a member of Springcreek Church for 17 years. Ivan served as a Chaplain and provided counseling services for the church.
He married the love of his life, Karen, on May 22, 1976, and they shared 38 wonderful years together. Ivan leaves behind his wife, Karen; eight children, Stanley Vance, Johnathan Vance, Casey Vance, Megan Vance, Joshua Vance, Caitlin Vance Hernandez (Edwin), Jeremy Vance and Hannah Vance; granddaughter, Melody Hernandez; brothers, Dwight Vance and Clinton Vance.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be given to Springcreek Church, Operation Kindness of Carrollton, or Mental Health America of Greater Dallas in memory of Ivan Vance.
A memorial service will be held at Springcreek Church, 2660 Belt Line Road, Garland, Texas 75044 at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 19, 2014. Services will be officiated by Reverend David Hood.
