Homer E Warlick Jr., 97, passed away May 24, 2013. He was a descendent of Dallas Pioneers, John H. Cole, for whom Cole Avenue was named and William G. Preston, for whom Preston Road was named. One of his great-grandfathers, Dr. John Cole, founded the town of Cedar Springs. Another Frontier Days great-grandfather, Joseph L. Cole, planted the huge pecan tree located at Preston Rd and Armstrong Blvd. That area was part of the Cole farm when he planted the tree in the 1800's. The tree has been called the "million-dollar Christmas tree"and is decorated with lights each Christmas. Mr. Warlick was awarded 2 Bronze Stars during World War II, serving as U.S. Army Master Sargent and Radar Repairman in Hawaii and Philippine Islands. Survived by children, Homer E. Warlick, III and wife Sharon, Betty S. Hodges, and Michael D. Warlick and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Don E. Hodges and Tracy L. Brooks; 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren. His beloved wife of 67 years, Betty Ware, passed away on December 3, 2009. Graveside service for Mr. Warlick will be held with military honors on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Greenwood Cemetery in Dallas.
