Marple, Hobart W. "Bo", age 88, passed from this life February 13, 2011 in Richardson, Texas. He was born May 18, 1922 in Kansas City, KS to Jay and Fannie (Bolte) Marple.
Graduated from Wilsey High School, Wilsey, KS in 1941.
He began work with Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS before his distinguished career in the USAF Nov. 1942 " Jan 1968, where he attained the highest rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He flew in one of the lead aircraft dropping Pathfinders and paratroopers on D-Day, June 6, 1944. In Korea, he flew Medivac and Psy-op missions. CMSgt Marple was a finalist for CMSgt of the Air Force in 1968. After retirement, he worked as an aircraft maintenance inspector at Vought in Grand Prairie, followed by another career with The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District.
Bo served as ‘temporary’ Scoutmaster of Troop 533 for 38 years. He was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, as well as earning his Wood Badge beads and the Silver Beaver Award. Bo was a member of the VFW, Lions Club, Rotary Club, former Commander of American Legion Post 184, President Elect of Arlington Noon Optimist Club and the Happy Helping Hands charity. Many people benefited from his years of Red Cross CPR & First Aid training. He was on the Board of Directors for the Texas National Cemetery Foundation; later, a long-time volunteer at the D/FW National Cemetery which was created during his tenure on the Board. He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Alice Marple, his parents, and all his siblings.
Bo is survived by his children, Debra, Linda and James Marple and his wife Kristen and grandchildren, Tyler, Alyssa, Hallie and Jake.
VISITATION will be 6 " 8 P.M. Thursday evening at the funeral home. FUNERAL SERVICE will be 12 Noon Friday Feb 18, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, 1520 Blackburn Rd, Sachse, TX. MILITARY SERVICE will be 2:15 P.M. at D/FW National Cemetery.
