Hershal T. Snider Jr., age 86 passed away on July 26, 2014 in McKinney, Texas. He was born on July 8, 1928 in Austin, TX., the son of Hershal Theo and Faye Addington Snider. He was a graduate of McKinney High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy from Feb. 2, 1946 to Nov. 12, 1947, and in the naval reserve active duty program from June 1949 to April 1953. He served on the U.S.S. Severn, sailing to Japan, Korea, Singapore, Mayla States and Sri Lanka.
Hershal retired from American Airlines after 40 plus years as an Aircraft Maintenance Radio Technician. In 1985 he was granted a General Radiotelephone Operator's Lifetime License from the USA Federal Communications Commission.
Hershal enjoyed traveling, gardening and attending family gatherings where he loved to reminisce and share stories of the history of McKinney and its residents. He also enjoyed talking about his cat, Nibbles, movie outings with his son Richard, and listening to inspirational messages on the radio.
Hershal is preceded in death by his parents Hershal Theo Snider and Faye Snider Hodges. He is survived by his very spoiled cat, Nibbles, son; Richard Snider of Grand Prairie, Texas , sister; Betty Hughes and husband, Jim, of Prosper, Texas, brothers; C.P. Snider and wife Patsy of Allen, Texas, Don Hodges and wife Phyllis, of Anderson, S.C., Jimmy Hodges and wife Nancy of Garland, Texas, aunt; Oleta Arnsen of California, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A family and friends visitation night is scheduled for July 28, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home , 601 S. Tennessee St., McKinney, Texas. A graveside service will be conducted by Daniel McPherson, chaplain for Heart to Heart Hospice on July 29, 2014 at 11:00 am at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Prosper, Texas.
