Henry Louis Sager

November 17, 1942 — September 16, 2015

Henry Louis Sager (1942 - 2015)

More commonly known as Hank, he was born to Ida and Norman Sager in Syracuse, NY on November 17th, 1942.

His family included three bothers (Johnny, Harry, Carl) and one sister (Caroline). At age 11, Hank met his future wife Bernie Milewski whom he would marry in South Carolina 8 years later. While dating Bernie, he volunteered for the Naval Reserves at age 18 and joined the Navy full time at age 19.

Hank married Bernie while he was on active duty on May 13th, 1962. Serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Hank was away when Bernie gave birth to their oldest child: William Henry Sager. Hank graduated from the United States Navy Electronic Technician School and left the service with an honorable discharge after serving a two year tour in 1964.

Hank and Bernie moved to Rochester New York where Hank started working for General Dynamics in their Radio Communications Lab. Fifteen months after leaving the Navy, Hank became a proud papa again when Bernie gave birth to their youngest; this time a daughter they named Wendy Ann Sager.

After a few years, Hank had the family's first home built out in the farmlands of Upstate New York in Victor. During seven years at GD, Hank designed, built and tested military high-frequency modularized and frequency-synthesized receivers
and transmitters.

In order to better provide for his family and while working six day, twelve hour shifts, Hank went to night school 3 hours a night, 3 days a week for eight and a half years. He graduated with High Honors from Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Electrical Engineering which helped provide the credentials to propel him even further in his career. While earning his degree, Hank switch jobs and started working for Harris Corporation where he continued working on military projects including the Automatic Antenna Coupler for the Marine Corps Radio System as well as other amplifiers, transmitters and ancillary systems.

In 1978, Hank moved the family from Victor to Allen, Texas in search of warmer weather and a better lifestyle for his family. He joined Collins Radio which was later purchased by Rockwell International. Here, Hank worked on sophisticated antennae and transmitters for the United States Air Force and United States Navy. While he was at Rockwell Hank became a grandfather to Veronica, Alexander and Samantha.

After many years at Rockwell and several important technical patents, Hank retired but continued as a consultant. This new role required Hank to travel throughout the United States and to many European locations. Always insisting that his wife travel with him, Hank and Bernie were able to spend several years enjoying new adventures all over the world.

To those who met him, Hank was a very friendly and charitable man. He put others first in many aspects of his life from helping with his grandchildrens' homework to encouraging his wife in her many causes and hobbies. Hank was always quick to
offer to help repair, install, build or advise any home or auto project. If he didn't know how to do something, he would research and figure it out. If it could be taken apart, Hank was the one who would know how it should be reassembled, often times better than ever.

Hank passed away just a few months prior to his 73 birthday. He was married to Bernie for almost 53 years. He is survived by Bernie, his son William (Bill) and
wife Kris; his daughter Wendy and husband Dean; grandchildren Veronica, Alexander and Samantha; his brothers Carl and John and his sister Caroline. He will be deeply missed.

A memorial service was held at Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, September, 19th. He will be interred at a later service at the Dallas-Forth Worth National Cemetery.
