Helen Hammer passed away December 13, 2013. Helen was born May 29, 1930 to parents Peder and Ester Overby in Maywood, Illinois. Helen attended the Art Institute of Chicago and moved to Dallas, Texas in December, 1949 upon her marriage to Charles Hammer.
Helen was a loyal and active charter member of Western Heights Christian Church, Garland, TX which later merged with United Disciples Christian Church of Richardson where she continued to serve in several capacities.
Helen loved all kinds of music and she and her husband Charles were on the Board of Directors of the Garland Oprey for many years. Proud of her Scandinavian heritage, Helen was a long time member and past chairman of the local chapter of the Swedish VASA Lodge. Helen enjoyed crafts and the company of her many friends. Working part time after her children were raised, Helen retired as a secretary after 19 years at Check Savers, Inc. of Garland.
The greatest joys of her life were her husband Charles of 56 years, her daughter Cheryl, her son David, and her granddaughter Erinn. Helen was later blessed with another joy Hughlon Dowell. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles and survived by daughter Cheryl and husband Mark Lusch, son David, granddaughter Erinn, and great granddaughter Joslyn.
A Memorial Service will be held at the United Disciples Christian Church of Richardson at 601 East Main St. Richardson at 11:00 am on Tuesday December 17, 2013.
