Hazel Marie Gregory

Hazel Marie Gregory, age 88, was born March 22, 1936, in Sachse, Texas. She was the great-great granddaughter of William Sachse.

She was preceded in death by her parents Luther and Gladys Bailey and her sisters Naomi Ruth Robinson (Ruthie), Nada Davis, Jerry Graham, Freda Herring, and Nelda Crawford.

Hazel is survived by her daughter Leslie White and husband Scott, daughter Julie Gregory, grandchildren Meagan Strain and husband Jonathan, Trenton White, great-grandchildren Evelyn, Vivienne, and Theordore Strain, as well as several nieces and nephews, cousins, many close friends, and of course her beloved Southfork family.

Hazel was the fourth of the six Bailey girls and the last survivor. All the girls are now reunited.

She was a lifelong member of the Sachse Christian Church where she served as Deacon and taught many years of Vacation Bible School.

She graduated from Garland High School in 1954 and remained in close contact with her classmates. She went to work in 1959 at Collins Radio as a secretary and retired from Rockwell International as a defense secretary with a high government clearance. She took a time-out from her career for several years to start a family and raise her daughters. She typed 109 words per minute, a skill which she put to use on several occasions after retirement on Sunday evenings typing school essays for her grandkids. She could not sit still in her retirement and went back to work at Southfork Ranch where she was a staple until 2023. In 1970 she was instrumental in establishing the Parker Women’s Club which is still active today, where the women raised significant funds for the Parker Fire Department. She was also very involved in all things Plano, serving on the Crisis Center Board in 1980, and worked on several political campaigns. She was a staunch Republican and would gladly tell you why if you had the time. She loved her country!

She was a staple in the Sachse Historical Society where she served on the board for 6 years. She also helped contribute material to the Sachse Museum. She was very proud of her heritage.

She remained one of the Plano Wildcats’ biggest fans, never missing a Friday night game and fondly recalling the 1999 game against John Tyler in which Plano scored 4 touchdowns in the final minutes of the game. She changed her mascot when her grandson became the quarterback for the Sachse Mustangs. She never missed one high school game in 4 years. That turned into Saturday College Football where she once again changed her mascot to the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs. Trenton was her all-time favorite quarterback. Recently she was attending great granddaughter Evie’s basketball games. She was very competitive and loved sports. She did not believe everyone should get a blue ribbon, she thought if you worked hard and won you were the winner!

The little red car will no longer be running up and down the roads.

Forever in our hearts, Hazel was loved and will be missed by all. She lived life to the fullest.
