On Saturday May 7, 2022, Hazel Ann Blanton, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend passed away at the age of 83 from her long battle with cancer.
Hazel was born on March 15, 1939 in Dallas, TX to Lee and Eleanor Henson. She was a beautician who did hair for almost 50 years. She married Ray Blanton on July 17, 1957. Together they raised one son: Reagan C Blanton Jr.
Throughout her life, Hazel had a passion for anything purple. If you visited either of her two beauty shops over the years, they testified to her love of purple. She won an award at a knife show for her purple knife collection and loved the color so much she even had purple hair once! She was very involved in her son's PTA and no matter how busy life was she loved her "babies" very much and stayed constantly present in their lives. She was an active part of the Garland High School class of '57. Later in life Hazel was also a member of the "City of Garland Seniors Committee" and loved to attend their meetings.
Hazel was a woman known for her big blond hair, unmissable "blingy" style, and personality to match. She didn't go anywhere without her nails done, make up on, and a fabulous purse. She added her own flair everywhere she went. You couldn't meet her without her making an impact. Even in the smallest moments she would reach out to others: even through something as simple as giving a candy cane to a cashier. Hazel had a lot to say and was never afraid to say it. There was always a story to tell, a comforting word to offer, or an opinion to share and she never held herself back. Her boldness carried her through life with her head held high ready for whatever may come. Hazel found the excitement in every moment and could make even the most mundane Wal-Mart trip into a memory that would last forever. She fiercely loved her family and cherished her friends. No moment was too short to introduce the people who meant the most and let everyone know just how proud she was of them. Until the end, Hazel talked to every person she came across and made jokes about the little things. Her sense of humor was always something else and it stayed that way. She will be dearly missed by all those who were lucky enough to have her in their lives. However, we know she is in a better place, and we will see her again.
Hazel was preceded in death by her father, Lee, her mother, Eleanor, and her brother, Lee Jr. She is survived by her husband Ray along with her son Reagan and his wife Amy Blanton. Her grandchildren: Clint and his wife Lauren Blanton, as well as Alexis and Ezra White and her great-grandchildren: Kyler Jeffrey and Alexis Blanton. In addition, she is survived by her sisters Carol Rucker, Lou Brown, Valerie Pitts, and their families.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 2:00pm at Charles A Smith and Sons 2925 5th Street, Sachse, TX 75048, phone number 972 414-5050. The family asks that you please wear purple to honor Hazel.
