Heaven gained another angel, when Glenn D. Bassham of Wylie, TX passed away after a long, brave battle with Alzheimer’s on December 16th, 2022. Glenn was born December 28th, 1935, in Fort Worth, TX. Because of his dad’s career with El Paso Natural Gas, Glenn spent his childhood moving around the gas fields of west Texas. He graduated from high school in Kermit, Texas and graduated from Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX with a degree in electrical engineering, which then led to a long career working with companies like Texas Instruments, E-systems and eventually Raytheon.
He was a cherished son, brother, husband, father, Dad and friend to all that knew him. Glenn was known for his ability to fix almost anything mechanical … there was never a need to throw anything away – he could fix it. He was endlessly generous and often made strangers into lifelong friends, simply because he saw someone who needed help – and he helped them. Glenn enjoyed the outdoors, camping in their beloved travel trailer with his family in our national parks when the kids were younger and then with his wife, Mary Alice, when the kids were grown. But above all of this, his first & foremost loves were his family. Glenn devoted himself to his family and treasured the time he spent with them.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Mary Alice; his daughters, Jennifer Jackson, Stacey Myers (Steve Myers), Kelly Roberts and Alicia Bassham; his sister, Anita Miller (Don Rust), and his brother Elbert Bassham (Genevieve Bassham); his three wonderful grandchildren, Drew Myers, Zack Myers, and Allie Zepeda (Zane Zepeda). He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Bassham, and his father, T.C. Bassham. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 21st from 6 – 8 at the Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Sachse, TX (2925 Fifth Street, Sachse, TX 75048). Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday December 22nd, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Lake View Cemetery in Lavon, TX.
Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
