Gladys Marie Heddin Groom was born February 10, 1913 in Edgewood, TX to James ("Jim") Joshua Heddin & Ninnie Ethridge Heddin and passed away December 20, 2014 at Abba Care Assisted Living in Garland, Texas. Gladys grew up in the Old Bethel/Tundra Community in Van Zant County, TX. Gladys M. Heddin married Harley L. Groom on October 08, 1927 in Canton, Texas and was laid to rest next to him in Canton, Texas on December 23, 2013. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband in July 1965 and son, Harley L. Groom, Jr. in June 1985, her brothers, Adolph Heddin and Olin Heddin, sisters, Addis Norrell, Ruby Crabtree and Clois Hathcock. She is survived by one sister, Jeffie Brumley, of Terrell, TX, her Son and daughter-in-law, Wedsel & Wanda Groom of Red Oak, TX, Daughter and son-in-law, Jeanie & Richard Maddox of Mesquite, TX, Daughters, Adella Soape of Carthage, TX, Glenda Pior of Rowlett, TX, and Gail McMullin of Plano, TX, 14 Grandchildren/11 in-laws; 28 Geat-Grandchildren/9 in-laws, 11 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

She served in the ministry with her husband until his death in July 1965 at the following churches in Texas: First Baptist Church in Carthage, TX, Southside Baptist Church in Garland, TX, and Oak Grove Baptist Church in Rylie, TX. She had so much love for the people in these congregations and has remained friends with many of them over the course of her life. She retired from Dallas Independent School District in 1983.

Gladys leaves her family and friends with a legacy of love and caring. She was loved and adored by all who knew her. She had a servant's heart and was always ready to help in every way. Her "green thumb" caused her to seek out the plants that needed help in the nurseries....plants that were almost dead Gladys would rescue and restore them to their former health and beauty.
