George Leonard Harris, 69 , resident of Garland, Texas, a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather.
George, also known to his family as Lenny, was one of ten children born to his parents the late Edward William Francis Harris, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Marie (Watkins)Harris. He was born on May 21, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA. where he spent his childhood. After graduating high school George joined the U.S. Air Force on Nov. 12, 1964. While serving our country, he became a communications specialist stationed in Guam. After Guam he was transferred to Carswell Air Force base in Fort Worth, Texas where he met Erma Neal Perry. On March 21, 1968 George and Erma were joined in Holy Matrimony. From this union they had one son Leonard Victor Harris. George was honorably discharged from the Air Force on Oct. 11, 1968.
After being discharged George found a job in the communications field working at AT&T where he remained for 29 years, retiring on Dec. 11, 1997. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his favorite football team the Philadelphia Eagles.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Erma Harris, his son Victor Harris, his granddaughter Megan D. Stukes and her husband James Stukes, and great grandson Princeton James Stukes. He also leaves behind his brothers Richard, Douglas, and James (Jimmie) Harris. Also his sister Helen (Murphy). He also had a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his sisters Cecilia (CeeCee), Patricia (Patsy), Elizabeth (Bally), and Alice (Bush). Also brother Edward (Sonny).
George requested no service to be held and to be cremated and his remains to be placed at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery for veterans, and his name be inscribed on the wall. The location will be determined at a later date.
