Gary Phillip Young came from a long line of Texans who settled in East Texas in the mid 1800s. He was born at Florence Nightingale Hospital at Baylor, in Dallas, TX on Feb 9, 1955 to Sylvia Ann Temple Young, who preceded him in death. Gary unexpectedly died November 27th, 2021 in Dallas. In addition to his mom, he was also preceded in death by sisters Martha Morris and Pam Allen, his grandparents James 'Swissman' and Grace 'Gram' Sitton Temple, grandmother Sarah White Stroud, father-in-law Rev. Joe D. Smith and his uncle, Dr Bobby Temple.
He was an amazing husband, father and all-around great person and is survived by his wife of 35 years, Melodie Smith Young, his children Amie Young of Krum, TX, his son Carder James Young and daughter-in-law Courtney Flores Young, of Oklahoma City, OK, Chaney Temple Young of Oklahoma City, OK, her boyfriend Jack McDowell of West Point, NY, and acquired son Joshua Johnson of Tucson, AZ. His brother William 'Randy' Young of Weatherford, Texas and sister Jacque Bloxom of Mesquite, Texas, and his beloved cousin Carl McKee and a host of McKee cousins all from North Texas. He is also survived by His mother-in-law Mary 'Rose' Smith, his brother-in-law Tim and wife Dr Connie Smith of Dyersburg, TN, nephews Dr Cole and wife Beth Smith of Chapel HIll, NC, Dr Cory Smith of Birmingham, AL, nieces Chelsea Smith also of Birmingham, and his favorite-Cassidy Smith of Dyersburg, TN. His sister-in-law Alisa Smith Petersen and her husband Allan of Garland, and his Smith, Ballard, Slaten and Yoder inlaws which he also claimed as family. He also leaves dear friends that became family through First Baptist Academy, First Baptist Church Dallas, Melodie's work family, his years as a Richardson police officer, small business owner, Forest Hills neighborhood, his employees, and countless others whom he dearly loved and enjoyed knowing.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 3rd in the HIstoric Sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Dallas with family receiving visitors at 1 p.m. prior to the service, also in the Historic Sanctuary.
Burial will be held at the family cemetery on Sat. Dec 4th at 11 a.m. with a graveside service in Silo, Oklahoma.
