Gary Lynn Matthews, aged 63, from Prosper, Texas, peacefully passed away at his residence on September 23, 2023, surrounded by his cherished family, following his valiant battle against cancer.
Born on October 10, 1959, in Denver, Colorado, Gary Matthews was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Rollie and Beatrice Matthews, in Miami, Oklahoma. After the loss of his grandparents, he found a home with his aunt and uncle, Brent and Shirley Huffman, in Garland, Texas. Gary proudly graduated from South Garland High School in 1978, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey.
For 35 years, Gary dedicated his life to driving semi-trucks, displaying unwavering commitment to his profession. However, his most significant source of pride was the 41-year marriage to the love of his life, Linda Matthews, with whom he raised two remarkable children.
In his eyes, the pinnacle of his achievements was nurturing his children. Gary's journey was marked by profound loss, having bid farewell to his grandparents, Rollie and Beatrice Matthews, as well as his Aunt and Uncle Brent and Shirley Huffman, brother Terry Homer, sisters Sandra Gray and Susie Roberts, and father-in-law Chet Whatley.
Gary's legacy lives on through his devoted wife, Linda Matthews of Prosper, Texas, his son Jonathan Matthews and daughter-in-law Taylor of Weatherford, Oklahoma, his daughter Jennifer Tansini and son-in-law Vince of Sanger, Texas, and his most cherished treasures, his four granddaughters: Kailyn, Bailey, Finley, and Ridley. He is also survived by his brothers Darrell Roberts and his wife Michelle of Colorado, Dale Huffman of Lake Tawakoni, and Doug Devore and his wife Lynn Devore of Blue Ridge, Texas.
In honoring his memory, those who held a special place in Gary's heart will serve as pallbearers: Doug Devore, Michael Davis, Josh Devore, Jason Devore, Landon Davis, and Vince Tansini. Gary Matthews leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and dedication that will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
