Garry Leslie Powell began his journey on this earth on November 16, 1953, and left his family and friends on Sunday, April 27, 2014, to take the most important journey of his spiritual life. Thank you all for your support, prayers, love and friendship during his lifetime and especially these last three years. The Lord blessed us with so many wonderful caregivers over the last three years. We can't thank them enough for their love and compassion. Rejoicing in Garry's life are his wife of nearly 37 years, Brenita Powell; his mother, Pearl Mae Powell; his brother, Larry Powell and wife, Martha; along with his sister-in-law, Shelley Powell. Waiting to welcome Garry at the end of his earthly journey were his brother, Barry L. Powell and his father, J. C. Powell and many other relatives and dear friends. Garry's presence was larger than life and he loved his family, whether by blood, marriage or adoption, and his friends, from lifelong to brand new. He had special feelings for his nieces and nephews whom he thought of as his own children. Garry was so proud of his nieces and nephews: Bret Powell, Bart and Erinn Powell and their children, Hannah Rose, Emily Grace and Connor "Crash"; Aaron and Lewis Powell; Ashley and Kyle Derrick and their sons, Tristen and Trenton; and Ginger, Camille and Josh Moore. We love and miss him already! He will be anxiously waiting on us! In the meantime, a celebration of Garry's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Highland Park Baptist Church in Texarkana. In lieu of flowers, please support the American Cancer Society or your local animal shelter or rescue group where you can adopt a dog or cat to name "Garry".
There will be a celebration in Dallas at a later date.
