Gabriel Camacho of Dallas, Texas, passed away August 16, 2012, of natural causes. He was born September 22, 1923 in Sherman, Texas to Vincent Camacho and Rosa Ojeda (Camacho) Hernandez. He was preceded in death by his daughter Delores Camacho and sons Gabriel Charles Camacho and Ezequiel Anthony Camacho. He is survived by daughter Diana Koen and husband Ronald Gene Koen of Dallas, his sisters Roseanne Rodriguez, and Mary Lillian Rodriguez and husband Manuel Rodriguez, brother Patrick Samuel Hernandez and wife Rebecca Hernandez, grandsons John Franklin Koen and partner Slaveiko Krasimirov Savov of Philadelphia, PA, Troy Allen Koen and wife Christine Ruth Koen of San Antonio, TX, Jason Albert Koen and wife Nancy Elizabeth Koen of Dallas, TX, , Gene Gabriel Koen and wife Sparrow Morgan Koen of Los Angeles, CA, also by his great-grandchildren, Mason Allen Koen, Ian Christian Koen, Madison Kimberly Koen, Isabelle Alexis Koen, Zion Albert Koen and Jason Angel Koen, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
Gabriel was a WWII veteran stationed in La Holla, California and injured while in the United States. He founded Camacho Box Company directly after the war in 1946 where he remained owner until 1996. He was active in the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for many years, and was named Businessman of the Year. He was also a charter member of the Dallas Central Lions Club, where he was active in many of the programs helping disadvantaged children with eyeware. Gabe, as he was called by his friends and family, was well known in the community and also in the metroplex business community.
Gabe was a life-long member of Agape Memorial United Methodist Church in which he faithfully supported. He was an active member of United Methodist Men.
Graveside services will be held at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 10 o’clock AM, officiated by his pastor The Rev. Juan Osorio. Attendees should arrive at 9:45 AM. Lunch and a memorial service will be held at Agape Memorial United Methodist Church, 5111 Capitol, Dallas, TX 75206, at 11:45 AM.
