Frederick Arthur Hawkins

March 25, 1943 — July 26, 2019

Fred Arthur Hawkins
A good ol' boy, Fred was a faithful husband, loving father, ministering deacon, a wonderful Christian. Always respectful of his parents, he lovingly cared for his mother in her last days, bringing her to Garland to be with his family.

Never seeking fame or fortune, Fred turned into a superstar dad. He dove into everything from Indian Princess activities to algebra tutorials, and swim meets. Dedicated to the success of his daughter, he always traveled the extra mile for her as well as his wife. But Fred not only supported and encouraged his child; he applauded everyone else's child and grandchild, rejoicing in their accomplishments and deeds.

As a deacon, he ministered to all in the church with his friendly attitude and helpful ways. He was unselfish in giving and caring for others.
As a cat lover, Fred found great comfort in his Sweet Pea, a steady companion. In his illness this year, Sweet Pea constantly received Fred's attention, as well as tons of treats.

Meticulous in all that he did, Fred's work was prized in the printing business, where his attention to detail saved many a project. Always careful, he worked hard on every project until its completion, but not just for his family – helping friends to paint, landscape, or any other task where help was needed.

Calm in each crisis, Fred was a loyal friend who just appeared whenever he saw a need for a helping hand. He never found the day too short to rescue friends in their needs and always stopped his day to cheer others. A true good ol' boy!

Fred was born March 25th, 1943 in Camden, Arkansas and passed on July 26th, 2019 after a brief battle with cancer. He was the only child of Glen and Margaret Hawkins of Camden both of whom preceded in death. He graduated from Camden High School in 1961, and is alum of Southern Arkansas University. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Lana Irvin Hawkins of Garland and his daughter Rachel Alayna Hawkins and son in law Daniel Scott Arnauld of Richardson.

The family requests that if you wish to memorialize Fred, consider making a donation to the Richardson Animal Shelter or a local no-kill shelter of your choosing.

A come and go reception in Fred's memory will be held at Garland Women's Activities Building 713 Austin Street, Garland, Texas 75040 on Saturday, August 10th from 2:00 to 4:00.
