Franklin Drew Umholtz

Franklin Drew Umholtz, age 30 of Wylie, TX, passed away September 29, 2016 in Plano, TX. He was born on July 18, 1986 in Dallas, TX to Roger and Kathleen (Hellemann) Umholtz. Franklin was a soldier in the U.S. Army Reserve, Unit 223 Transportation Company out of Grand Prairie, TX, as well as a member of the Honor Guard, and he worked for Coca Cola as a merchandiser for 2 years. Franklin loved his niece, Haylee and his nephew, Riley. They always made him smile. He enjoyed cars, motorcycles, and video games, and he was quite a movie buff. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Franklin is survived by his mother, Kathleen Morrison; father, Roger Umholtz; sister, Ashley Chandler and husband, Koree; niece, Haylee Chandler; nephew, Riley Chandler; grandmother, Ruth Hellemann; grandfather, John Umholtz; aunts, Melissa Howlett and husband, Darren and Lisa Umholtz and husband, Lee Kleinman; uncles, Vincent Umholtz and wife, Renee and Stewart Umholtz. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Franklin Hellemann and grandmother, Julia Umholtz.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Friday, October 7, 2016 at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Charles W. Smith & Sons Chapel in Sachse. Honorary pallbearers will be David Kleinman, Nick Umholtz, Tyler Howlett, Koree Chandler, Brian Sanders, William Dauria, Darren Howlett, Lee Kleinman and Hector Benavides.In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made in Franklin’s name to The Haylee and Riley Chandler Trust Fund or Shiloh Village, c/o Serve Denton, 1980 E. University Dr., Denton, TX 76209. This a program that is building a small village of tiny homes in Denton, TX for homeless veterans.
