Franklin "Winston" Hibbs, also known as PawPaw, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. A viewing and visitation will be held Monday, February 18, 2019, at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home located at 2925 Fifth Street in Sachse, Texas. His graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Mount Olivet Cemetery located at 2301 N. Sylvania Ave. at N.E. 28th Street in Fort Worth, Texas.
Winston was born on March 1, 1943, to Libby and Luther Hibbs of Texarkana, Texas. As a young boy he enjoyed fishing with his Uncle Will and high school buddies. His love for fishing continued throughout his life. After high school graduation he and his brother, Ronald, moved to Washington DC, where he worked for the FBI and began college courses at Strayer University. The skills he learned while working for the FBI helped him secure a position in communications with the U.S. Army. During the Vietnam War, he was stationed on the Aleutian Islands off the coast of Alaska. He felt proud of his purposeful role in intercepting critical messages for our country. He was honored to present many flags to families of lost servicemen. His memories of the FBI and Army were treasured all the days of his life.
In his later years, Winston and Martha met as neighbors and married in 1989. They just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on February 11th. During those years, he worked in the Maintenance Department of Garland Independent School District and prided himself on being "Mr. Fix-it". They were both involved with GISD and seldom missed a Friday night football game or Labor Day parade.
Winston will be missed dearly by his family: wife Martha; brother Ronald Hibbs and wife Karen of Keller, Texas, and nephew Matt; sister Barbara Rose of New Braunfels, Texas, and nephews Joey and Jeff; daughters Lisa Bitters, Ann Atherton and husband Toby; granddaughters Rose Powell and husband Chad, Lianne Noser and husband Steve, Emily Guerrero, and Kristen Guerrero; and great-granddaughter, Allison Powell.
Winston, "PawPaw", loved his family deeply. He served them unconditionally and left many memories that will be cherished forever. There was humor each day with his famous "one-liners", like "Ya done good kid"! He could be heard now saying, "If I don't see ya in the future, I'll see ya in the pasture!"
