Flonoya Lon Coldwell was born in the family home on February 25, 1932 to Ola Wynne and Marvin Elmon Hall. The family lived in Garland, Texas where she proudly called home for all of her 87 years. She went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Flonoya, known to most as Fluty, Granny to her family, was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don of 56 years in 2007. Her parents, her sister, Ann Roland, brothers, Marvin, Jr., Howard and Cliff Hall also preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Donna and Wes Davis and Sally and Ron Emert; her 4 grandsons and their spouses, Wade and Kylie Davis, Jake and Shaunte Davis, Blake and Hannah Emert, and Cole and Gayle Emert and 7 precious great grandchildren, Macie, Meredith, Molly, Charlotte, Crash, Maggie and Savannah. She graduated from Garland High School in 1949 where she played basketball, served as class officer and was voted Best All Around. Her class still gathered for lunch or dinner on a regular basis. She always enjoyed the annual All-class reunion at Garland High School. On a first date to a costume party dressed as Martha and George Washington, a love story began. Don and Fluty were married on March 9, 1951 at Big Springs Baptist Church where Don had been a member all of his life. She joined that year and has rarely missed a Sunday since. She worked hard every day and was a perfectionist. Kraft, Continental Emsco and Garland Independent School District made up most of her career. She worked for 24 years at Centerville Elementary School where she knew all of the kids and families by name. She loved her work and retired in 1996.
A celebration of her life has been planned for Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Big Springs Baptist Church, 6538 N. Jupiter Road, Garland, Texas 75044 with Pastor Greg Oppenhuis officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Big Springs Cemetery. As one of the oldest members of Big Springs Baptist Church, Fluty was so excited about the plans for a new church building. Her prayer was always for Big Springs to be an effective church in the community and share the gospel of Christ with others.
