Douglas Robert Gallagher, age 77, a proud Navy Veteran, passed away Thursday, January 13th,2022, at home surrounded by his loved ones. Doug was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on July 12, 1944 to Virginia and Robert Gallagher. He attended St. Louis Park high school before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. While serving as an E-6 Electronics Technician Petty Officer First Class, Doug had many travels and adventures aboard the USS Plunger Nuclear Submarine.
While in the Navy, Doug married Margaret "Muggs" Anderson on March 23, 1968, whom he met when she was 14 and he was 17. Together, they would eventually have 3 children; Duane, David and Michelle., as well as 5 grandkids. In their 53 married years together, they shared a lot of time traveling together and making many memories with their family and friends. Doug prided himself on loving his family well. Being a husband, dad and papa were Doug's favorite roles.
Professionally, after his time in the Navy, Doug began a career in real estate, eventually leading to his taking on many management and mentorship roles in the relocation industry. He was very well liked and respected by peers and clients over the years. He maintained many friendships and connections that he valued up until his passing.
Doug served in many community roles in addition to his professional life. Doug was a proud resident of Allen since 1985, serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Allen City Council as Mayor Pro Tem, and the Allen Economic Development Board, among others. His passion for local politics continued to actively advocate for those individuals that he supported, as well as policies that he was passionate about. Many Allen residents were blessed by receiving his spirited campaign emails, or seeing him at the polls collecting signatures for various items he wanted the Allen residents to have the opportunity to vote on. His passion for his community was felt by many. Doug was very proud of his military service. He was involved with multiple submarine veterans groups, including forming the Submarine Veterans of North Texas. As a recent demonstration of his patriotism, he was a part of organizing for the local "Wreaths across America". He also proudly served with the Patriot Guard. As a man that loved the Lord, Doug had many roles in donating his time to serving others to bring people to Christ
including serving on the board for GEM Express Preschool and Kindergarten and helped establish the security team at Grace Church.
Doug touched many lives with his generous spirit, quick wit, wonderful sense of humor and his ability to make everyone feel like they were special. He is very loved and will be deeply missed.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Virginia and Bob Gallagher, his brother Chuck Gallagher, a host of other family and friends. Doug is survived by his wife, Muggs Gallagher, sons Duane Gallagher and David Gallagher, daughter Michelle Skidmore, grandsons Daniel and Sean Gallagher, granddaughters Sara Gallagher, Shelby Skidmore and Josey Skidmore, and brother Mike Gallagher, as well as a long list of extended family and friends.
