Douglas Degge

July 27, 1924 — September 5, 2016

Douglas Degge was born July 27, 1924 on a farm near Edmondson, TX, the third child of Ephraim Earl and Ruby Mae Qualls Degge. Douglas passed away September 5, 2016 at 10pm CT in Allen, TX at the age of 92.


He was a graduate of Texas Tech University and also attended West Texas State University for his teaching certification. He was a High School Biology and Chemistry teacher in Petersburg and Lockney Texas for many years. He was a gentle man of many talents and employed them in many roles – farmer, carpenter, student, auto mechanic, paperboy, milkman, Supervisor of Floyd County Weed Control District, teacher, elder in the Church of Christ in Lockney, TX, husband, brother, and loving father.


His life was spent in service to others. He exemplified a strong work-ethic and gave tirelessly and selflessly to others. He was ever-learning with a sharp mind that stayed so to the end of his life on earth. He was a people-person and never tired of talking with others. He loved his heavenly Father and family above all else. He is a man who has left a legacy behind that we all hope we can live up to and pass on.


He is survived by his sister, Louise Caskey of Tyler, TX, his children: Olin Degge (Anita) of Mesquite, TX, Mary Leslie (Dennis) Wilhoit of Los Alamos, NM, Sara (David) Snyder of Allen, TX, and daughter-in- law, Mollie (Degge) Woodbridge of Melissa, TX; also by his grandchildren – Bradley (Shannon) Degge, Eric (Rebecca) Wilhoit, Sara (Charles) Shay, Evan (Laura) Snyder, Erin (Marshall) May, Whitney (Eddie) Caballero, Jennie (Caleb) Courtney and David (Abby) Degge and 17 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers – Owen Degge, Joe Degge and Eldon Degge, his wife, Mary Glenn Huff Degge, his son, Kyle Degge, his grandson, Ian Snyder, a great-granddaughter, Emma Grace May and a great-grandson, Ryan Douglas Degge.


Added to all these, he is beloved by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, former students and friends.Visitation will be Friday, September 9 at Greenville Oaks Church of Christ, 703 S Greenville Ave, Allen, TX 75002at 10am with the funeral service following at 11am.


A second visitation will be held Saturday, September 10 at Main Street Church of Christ, 505 S Main St, Lockney, TX 79241 from 12:30-1:30pm with internment at a graveside service at 2pm at Lockney Cemetery.
