Douglas Arbon Baker

April 27, 1944 — May 15, 2021

Douglas Arbon Baker, Sr. was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away peacefully on May 15, 2021 at the age of 77, at his home in Nevada, Texas with his family by his side.

He was born to parents Alex Arbon Baker and Alma May Johnson on April 27, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas. Legend has it that Doug was born in a locomotive boxcar. After only a few years in grade school, he decided to work and as a result went on to enjoy a 52-year career as a truck driver where he received numerous driving safety awards. While living and working in San Antonio, Doug met and married his wife of 57 years, Sharon La Nell Baker. Together they had four children, Marjorie Gaye, Candy, Douglas Jr. "Buddy", and Brian. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in San Antonio, TX.

Doug enjoyed being with his wife, kids, and grandkids. He loved to tell funny stories and share interesting experiences from his driving truck years. He loved to sit in the garage and listen to old country music while smoking and drinking his coffee. Doug loved watching western shows and movies, but his favorite was Gunsmoke.

Doug was the oldest living male of his family and is preceded in death by brothers J.B., Alex Rodney, John Thomas "Tommy", James William "Jimmy" Baker; and sisters Sharon Ann Horn and Fannie May Lopez.

Doug is survived by his loving wife Sharon La Nell Baker and children Marjorie Gaye Cantu (Adolph), Candy Lanette Hawkins (Barry), Douglas Arbon "Buddy" Baker, Jr., and Brian Doyle Baker (Mekisha). Paw Paw's grandkids Jeffrey (Andrea) Cantu, Jessica (Jamie, Jr.) Ordonez, Elaine (Patrick) Hawkins, Chase Baker (Heather Phillips), Amanda (Ryan) Williams, Brittany (James) Bentle, Chance Baker, Malaina Baker, Noah Baker; and Great Grandkids Isaiah, Avah, Lydia, Delilah, Emmalyn, Gavin, Lucas, MacKenzie, Renick, and Carsten.
