Dorothy Gladys Hellmig Melville

Dorothy Gladys Hellmig Melville, 92, of Garland, Texas, passed away on January 7, 2014 of natural causes at Richardson Methodist Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 1 pm on January 13, 2014 at The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson, Texas. The Dr. Gary Singleton of The Heights will be officiating and assisted by the Rev. John Palmer. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at The Eastgate Funeral Home in Garland. Burial will follow at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by The Eastgate Funeral Home, 1910 Eastgate Dr. Garland, Texas. Pallbearers are, Daryl Melville, Daniel Hampton, Ricky Fuchs, and Peter Blackburn.
Dorothy was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 21, 1921. She attended Eastern High School in Baltimore and continued on to receive a certificate from the Baltimore School of the Bible.
Dorothy was married to Kenneth W Melville on May 31, 1942; they were married for 65 wonderful years.
Dorothy was active in the Christian Women's Club, taught Good News Clubs, sang in the choir at both Overlea Baptist Church and Perry Hall Baptist Church in Maryland and served at the churches as a deaconess. Dorothy served as a volunteer for 5 years at the Good Samaritan Hospital. She and her husband moved to Garland, Texas to live with her son, Wayne Melville, and his family in 1994. In Garland she attended Firewheel Bible Fellowship and The Heights Baptist Church. Dorothy served as a volunteer at Baylor Garland Hospital for over 18 years.
Dorothy will always be remembered as a person who was willing to give of her time and resources to help others. She dispensed wisdom and love to her family and always had time to listen to their needs. First and foremost she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and imparted that same love to her sons and her grandchildren for whom she prayed on a daily basis. Dorothy was a faithful wife and loving mother and mother-in-law.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Ruth Hemric of Baltimore, Maryland; son, Robert Melville of Sachse, Texas; son, Wayne Melville, of Garland, Texas; grandchildren, Laurie Gordon of Baltimore, Maryland; Kelly Salgado of Westminster, Maryland; Anne Melville-Blackburn of Garland, Texas; Daryl Melville, of Plano, Texas; Candace (Melville) Fuchs, of Burleson, Texas; and Julie (Melville) Hampton, of Rockwall, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jacob Fuchs; Matthew Hampton; Marissa Hodge; Taylor Gordon; Kaylee Gordon; Sydni Gordon; Victoria Klein; Marcito Salgado; Julianna Lopez; and Alexa Lopez.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents George and Helen Hellmig and her husband Kenneth William Melville.
Dorothy requests, as does the family, that memorial donations be made to the Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief, 5351 Catron, Dallas, Texas 75227 in lieu of flowers.
