Donna Carter Knowles

September 8, 1942 — March 9, 2020

Donna Carter Knowles, resident of Garland, TX for 42 years, passed away on March 9, 2020 in her home.

Donna was born in Dallas, TX on September 8, 1942 to Ted and Jessie Faye (Edwards) Carter. She was a proud student of Woodrow Wilson High School, when she met Phillip "Wayne" Knowles in the spring of 1959. He was stationed in the US Army at Camp Wolters, in Mineral Wells, TX at that time. After graduation, Donna began working as a messenger for Mobil Oil Co in downtown Dallas, TX – a job she enjoyed and spoke of frequently. It wasn't long before they were engaged and married on June 22, 1962. A few months later she and Wayne moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Within a couple of years they started their family with two children – Lisa and Bryan. Donna eventually wanted to come back to Big D to be closer to her family. She and Wayne moved back to Dallas in 1967 and within another couple of years their son Scott was born. Much later, when they thought they were done having children, their last child Emily was born. What a beautiful blessing she has been.

Donna was very involved in her children's school lives, participating in the PTA and heading or assisting with several school projects and events. Once her children were out of school, she decided to become an administrative assistant and ultimately became a travel consultant with Sharon Carr Travel for many years. She always enjoyed traveling and served as a liaison in escorting groups to many places, domestic and foreign. Donna loved spending time with her family, playing games, painting, decorating and sometimes assumed the role of director during purposefully, terrible renditions (the worse the better!) of the Birthday song on each and every birthday celebration ‐ both public and private.

Donna was a faithful servant and member of Eastridge Park Christian Church in Mesquite, Texas for several years. She served on fellowship and various other committees and cooked Wednesday night church dinners. Donna and Wayne made many life‐long friends while members of the church, including their best friends Elaine and Doug Gibbins and also Dan and Gloria Carroll.

Donna is survived by her husband, Wayne Knowles, her children Lisa Knowles, Bryan Knowles and his wife, Kristy, Scott Knowles and his wife, Gina, and Emily Britt and her husband, Jeremy. Donna is survived by one sister, Jean Gass, of Seguin, TX, seven grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, two sisters, Carole Van Der Miller and Ruth Ann Oates, and two brothers, Billy Carter and Glenn Carter.
