Donna married Dean Wilson, the father of her children, shortly after graduation from high school.

The marriage of nearly 25 years was cut short by his early death. Dean was a commanding officer in the Iowa National Guard. After his death, Donna experienced an extended period of difficult changes in her life. She worked at miscellaneous jobs such as hospital ward clerk, assembler of Born Free campers, house and office cleaner, photo studio manager, managing two concurrently, traveling photo proof consultant, church soloist and presenter of Christian concerts. Donna became convinced that she should share her vocal skills through presenting sacred concerts and committed her life to it. She started on her own in Iowa using a specially modified tape-driven sound system. She ran it herself as she sang. The performance tracks were previously recorded without the lead voice which Donna sang herself. After she came to Texas, she used a more advanced sound system. She sang a variety of songs with multiple groups and individual artists. She sang at many nursing homes by herself and with groups, especially in the Tyler area. She gave her concerts in some colleges in Iowa and many churches in lowa, Texas, and Missouri. Of special note, she presented several Christmas concerts of both secular and Christian songs at Hideaway, Texas complete with drama and décor. She served as vocalist and choir director at several churches during her career. She recorded one album.
