Born July 28, 1931 in Duggar, Indiana. Went home to his Lord and Savior on November 22, 2017 at the age of 86. Survived by his loving wife Carol Ammerman of 68 years. He was the 8th child of 9 siblings. Survived by brother Gerald Ammerman of Farmersville, Texas and sister Betty Krantz of Louisville, Kentucky. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survived by children Donna Cook, husband Ed Cook, Keith Ammerman, Jeff Ammerman , wife Deidra Ammerman, Derek Ammerman wife Jan Ammerman and Penny Winters , husband Steve Winters. Survived by grandchildren Thomas Cook, Matt Cook, Cole Ammerman, Eric Ammerman, Ashley Drabble, Garet Ammerman, Clay Ammerman, Mitchell Winters, Kelci Ammerman, and Layton Winters. Survived by great-grandchildren Kristena Cook, Landon Ammerman, Emerson Ammerman, Judd Drabble, Dalton Ammerman, Anderson Drabble, and Knox Winters.
Don entered the Army in 1948 and served until 1952. He also served in the National Guard Reserve from 1952 until 1977. He met his loving wife in Sullivan, Indiana at a midnight movie in 1947. They married 3 years later on December 2, 1950. They moved to Texas in June of 1962. They resided in their home at 906 Mardi Gras in Wylie, Texas for 30 years, where they raised 5 children in a one bathroom house.
Don retired from a 30 year career with the United States Postal Service in 1992. Upon retirement Don and Carol moved to Daingerfield, Texas. He loved their property; his passion was working and enjoying the woods. They moved back to Nevada, Texas in 2002 to be close to family. He enjoyed gardening, reading his favorite author Louis L’Amour, and all types of sports. His smile, laugh, and sense of humor will be missed.
He fought a courageous, 2 year battle, with cancer until the Lord called him home.
