Dennis "Dennie" Jon Geerts, 75, departed this earth to enter his heavenly home on Saturday, September 27, 2014. He was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on July 21, 1939, to Clement "Clem" Geerts and Anne M. Hei Geerts. Dennie graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1957, and then attended Wisconsin State College.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clem and Anne, and his brother Clare. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley A Geerts; son, Gregory Jon Geerts and wife Cathy Ann Tamez Geerts of McKinney, Texas; son, Jeffrey Darrin Geerts and wife Sandi Samford Geerts of Wylie, Texas; brother Roger Geerts and wife Sherry Geerts of Sunnyvale, California; sister-in-law Maurita "Bunny" Geerts of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and many more loving family member and friends, whom he dearly loved.
Dennie proudly served as an A2C (Airman Second Class) in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962. He worked for Collins Radio / Rockwell International as a graphic designer. After 20 years and achieving the position of Director of Graphic Design he then worked for Texas Instruments for 13 years. He retired in 2003 after working over 30 years.
While serving in the Air Force, Dennie met "one of the most beautiful young ladies of Oklahoma", Shirley Ann Aduddell. They were married in 1962 at the Chapel at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, OK. They were happily married for 51 years. He enjoyed snow skiing/jumping, etching, drawing and sketching, coaching sports activities for his boys, gardening and participating in church activities with the Pathfinders at Axe Memorial United Methodist Church. Dennie has said "My life was a wonderful trip through our Lord's beautiful and wonderful world."
Dennie was a very talented artist and used this talent for many years creating pen and ink sketches on sanddollars. He gave many away to friends and family, and many more were sold in art shows and consignment stores.
At the time of his heavenly home-going, he was a member of Axe Memorial Methodist Church in Garland, Texas. He had been an active church member since 1972, designing the stained glass panels for Axe where the sun will forever bring his memory to life with its dancing rays.
The family will receive friends at a visitation to take place on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Home 1910 Eastgate Dr, Garland, Texas 75041. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Axe Memorial United Methodist Church in Garland, Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Axe Memorial Methodist Church Food Pantry www.axeumc.org or to The Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
