Deborah Shoap, of Frisco, TX, passed away on Sunday, February 28th, 2021 at the age of 62.
Deborah was born October 9, 1958 in Alma, Michigan. She grew up, the youngest of five sisters and one younger brother, whom she doted on. She was fiercely independent, highly inquisitive, full of life and love, and always ready to laugh. Her sweet smile and feisty spirit engaged all who met her.
At the age of 16, she welcomed her first child, Stephen. From the beginning, he was hers and she was his. When she met the love of her life, James, a handsome military man, she fell fast, but it was only when he clearly had fallen for them both that Deborah agreed to marry him.
Deborah's early life was not an easy one, and she had much to prove to herself. After marrying James in 1976, she went back to school and received a delayed diploma. As a young mother with three children under the age of six, and a husband who was frequently deployed, she continued her academic pursuits, going to college and graduating Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1992. She went on to complete Master's work at Columbia College in South Carolina and to obtain a second bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Dallas in Digital Animation in 2007.
Deborah found her professional passion in working with children with special needs. She spent twenty years as a special education teacher, working with children with varying abilities as well as teens who had been placed in alternative programs. Her students fondly remembered her, looking her up years later to tell her where their life had led them.
Deborah often said if she were to be judged for anything when she got to heaven, it would be loving her kids so much. This was true of her grandchildren as well. As a grandmother, she was actively involved in all of their endeavors, never failing to be at band competitions, Scouting events, and more.
Deborah will be remembered for her sunny smile, generous heart, unassuming disposition, and loyalty and support of her family.
Deborah is survived by her daughters Brandy Roane and Tammy Turner; her six grandchildren; and her three sisters. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James, son, Stephen Shoap, brother, David Hopkins, and sister, Caroline.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 4th at 6:00pm at Preston Meadow Lutheran Church in Plano, TX. Honorary pallbearers for the service are Jon Turner, James Brightwell, Lindsey Brightwell, Stephen Brightwell, Kevin Turner, Joseph Roane, Elijah Roane, and Kaylee Sebunia. The family asks those planning to attend to come as they are comfortable. Jeans are absolutely acceptable. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Heart Association or LifePath Systems of McKinney.
