David was born on November 29, 1961, to Bob and Gloria McCowen. He grew up in Richardson, Texas. He spent his adulthood proudly serving as an Electronic Test Technician. He married his wife, Sharie McCowen on July 1, 1993, in Plano, Texas. They enjoyed over 30 years together before his passing.

David is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Sharie McCowen, with whom he built a beautiful life full of love and cherished memories. He also leaves behind his two daughters, Christie Winkles (Richard) and Leslie Smithart (Josh), and sons Jeff Kirn (Audrey), Will VanLeer (Maria), and Michael Johnson (Katherine) who will always remember their father’s wisdom, guidance, and unconditional support, his mother, Gloria McCowen and brothers Dean McCowen (Lisa), and Doug McCowen (Suzie) to whom he remained close to throughout his life and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. His grandchildren, Dylan and Aspen Winkles, Ethan, Eli, and Emilee Smithart, Lynzy, Decklyn and Aislyn Kirn, Alma and Eleot VanLeer, and Joshua, Gabe and Tevy Johnson were his greatest joy. He loved watching them grow, encouraging their passions, and sharing with them his love for life.

David was a man of many passions. He had an amazing artistic ability and loved to draw, spend time playing darts and pool with his friends and family while listening to music and rocking out to his favorite band, Rush, cheering on his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys, and indulging his curiosity about the mystery of space and aliens. His fascination with the nature and universe was a reflection of his sense of wonder and imagination. His peaceful spirit was always on display.

David's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who were lucky enough to know him. He was known for his generosity, his strong work ethic, and his ability to bring people together with his sense of humor and genuine spirit.
