David Guy McCarty

December 19, 1939 — September 2, 2020

David Guy McCarty was born December 19, 1939 in Barnetts Creek, Kentucky to Raymond and Elizabeth Ann McCarty. David was called to his heavenly home September 2, 2020 at the age of 80, at home, surrounded by his loving wife of 60 years and his family.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Alex McCarty, his sister Lee Ethell, and his son Robert Borders.
He is survived by his wife, Bettye, daughters, Pat (Danny) Moorman, Davina (Chris) Taylor, daughter-in-law, Sherri Borders, grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason) Wright, Ryan (Christian) Moorman, Matt (Shanda) Moorman, Patrick (Christina) Borders, Christopher (Melissa) Borders, Allyssa (Ryan) Simons, and Brandy (Rusty) Litchfield, seventeen great-grandchildren and number 18 due in December 2020, and a host of nieces and nephews, that he loved dearly.
With permission from their parents, at the age of 16 David and his best friend, Bill Salyers, joined the U.S. Army. David served in Special Forces and at age 17 was on his way to Germany, where he spent three years.

Upon his return from the service, David married Bettye Salyers in November 1960. They spent their early years of marriage operating their family grocery store in Kentucky before moving to Oklahoma where he began his career in technology. He was pursued by the Thompson family to join the Southland Corporation as a Systems Analyst, leading the move to Texas where they raised their family.
David started his career with Southland Corporation retiring after 25 years. David then worked at Moore's Plumbing Supply for 10 years followed by an 11-year career at ADESA Auto Auction.

His interests included hunting, fishing, golfing, the Dallas Cowboys and the Kentucky Wildcats. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and supporting them in all their endeavors and activities.
David was known for his generosity, sense of humor and compassion for others. "Generosity takes an open heart and a love that ask for nothing in return" (anonymous), a quote that defines his life. Winston Churchill said it best, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
At the age of 72, David accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized in his own pool by Dr. Dennis Hochgraber. He was a faithful member of Pathways Fellowship Church for 8 years and recently joined First Baptist Church of Mesquite.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 8th, at First Baptist Church, 127 E. Kimbrough Street, Mesquite, Texas. Visitation for family and friends will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home.
