David Jeffery McCarty

January 15, 1953 — September 7, 2018

Born: Jan. 15, 1953 in Mount Vernon, TX, to James and Blix McCarty. David was the baby brother of 6 loving siblings.
In 2014, David was diagnosed with lung cancer. He showed nothing but strength and courage. He fought a long hard battle, and was an inspiration to us all. David passed away Sept. 7th surrounded by his family whom he loved with all his heart.

David is survived by his wife, Melody, and two children, Mandy Kay McCarty and Paul David McCarty. His grandchildren Matthew, Mckayla, Colton and Case. His step-children Kathy, Donavan, Tim, and Christian. Great grandchildren Maverick, Sophia and Mary Rose. Siblings Carla and her husband, Jimmy Warnell; Tressia and her husband, Tom Buehler, Kenneth and his wife, Amy McCarty, and multiple nieces and nephews. David is preceded in death by his mother, Blix, and father, James McCarty, 3 siblings, 1 niece and 3 nephews.

David got a kick out of practical jokes. One Christmas, he bought fake scratch offs for everyone. After everyone ran around with their $20,000 winning ticket, David sat laughing knowing he accomplished his goal. He was a fun loving person and made a hobby of playing pranks on the unsuspecting soul. We called him the card man, too. If it was your birthday, he would always send a card, only thing was, it might be a sympathy or a Christmas card. He would pick out the card depending on how the front looked, didn't matter what was written on the inside or the type of card. We loved getting cards from him, no matter the occasion, we couldn't wait to open our surprise. He would scratch out what was there make it to fit the occurrence.

David was artistic, loved building things, once he built about a 30' walkway and a small barn, and by small, we mean a 10x10, all out of 1 inch by 1 inch boards aka Popsicle sticks. When he put his mind to something, he could build anything out or any type of material.

There are some people in the world with personalities so unique and humor so pure that memories from their jokes and conversations bring a smile long after separation from them. David had that charisma. He could fill the room that when he left, one would feel an emptiness. He was so magnetic that when he became an uncle at an early age all the little nieces and nephews would hang on to him like a monkey.

When someone passes away, sadness fills the world, but sometimes joy can blossom from such a sadness. David met Melody at such a time. When his mother passed away, the family gathered at his sister Carla's house to prepare for her funeral where he was introduced to Melody. As Melody sat by David, she said "This comes with benefits". It was love at first sight. David was her North, her South, her East, her West, her working week and her Sunday rest, her noon, her midnight, her talk, and her song. And, Melody was his everything.

David we love and miss you already, your handprint is all around us and while you have left this Earth you haven't left our hearts.
