David James Hawkins, age 72, passed away on Friday April 19, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born June 25, 1946 in Sulpher Springs, Texas to Truman and Lucille (Craft) Hawkins. He enlisted in the Navy in 1965 and served his country for 2 years during the Vietnam Conflict.
He married his wife Val December 1, 1976. David was a police officer in the city of Dallas for 33 years. While serving he was awarded many honors including the police shield and the meritorious conduct bar. Beyond his job as a police officer David was an amazing husband, father and papa.
After retiring from the police department April 2004 some of David's favorite times were playing with his granddaughter, taking her fishing and teaching her how to drive the riding mower.
David loved his family and loved life. Left to honor David and remember his love are his wife Val Hawkins; daughter Amanda Hawkins; precious granddaughter Katey Hawkins; sister-in-law Jackie Hawkins; brother-in-law Pete Ramsey; sister and brother-in-law Sara and Jim Kneipp; sister and brother-in-law Mary and Dale Sinclair; numerous nieces and nephews and remembered by a multitude of friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents Truman and Lucille Hawkins; brother Phillip Hawkins; sister Ann Ramsey; nephew Rodney Ramsey and great niece Annie Hawkins.
