Born in Dallas, Texas to Mayme Bennett and David Raleigh Graham. He grew up in Lakewood on Tremont Street and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. During his High School years he was in the ROTC and went on to serve honorably in the US Navy being discharged in 1946 and continued in the Naval reserve until 1954. Bill began his college course work at the University of Texas at Austin completing his Bachelor degree in Business Administration from SMU graduating in 1950. He returned to SMU taking Engineering classes to broaden his academic background. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. Bill married Mary Jane Branum on March 9, 1957. They spent 54 years together and many referred to them as "2 peas in a pod". He worked in various departments for ARCO retiring in 1985 as a Government Policy Analyst. Bill enjoyed working on cars, camping, boating and gardening. He was a lover of knowledge and enjoyed learning new things. He bought his first home computer when he was about 70 and spent many hours learning to use the internet for research and communication. He was an avid reader of history and stayed abreast of local and national events through many sources.
Bill and Jane had a daughter Laura & her husband Eddie Cunningham of Garland and a son, Andrew Graham and his wife Jenny of Flower Mound. He has five grandsons, Christopher, Dylon, Hunter, Damon & Derrick and another grandson arriving at the end of September.
Bill had two brothers, David Raleigh and Robert Morris who preceded him in death. He has numerous nephews and nieces.
Bill had a true zest for life and lived each day to the fullest. He had been involved in many community outreach programs and was always there to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends in need. He was dedicated to his family and was a compassionate and loving Husband and Father.
Mass will be celebrated at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 848 Harter Road, Dallas, TX 75218 on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 11:00 am. There will be a reception in the Parish Hall immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Austin Street Shelter, 2929 Hickory Street, Dallas, TX 75226, St. John’s Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice. Interment at DFW National Cemetery, date to be determined.
