David Ethan Dunn was born on November 21, 1925 in St. Louis, MO. David was the oldest of four children, two boys and two girls. Though plagued with asthma for most of his early life, he was a pleasant, happy child. He held fond memories of his childhood years at his grandparents, farm in Buffalo Valley, TN, where, during the depression, he spent every summer and one complete school year.
He graduated from Louisville Male H.S. in Louisville, KY in 1943 and was immediately drafted into the U.S. Navy, where he served during WWII as a medical corpsman at the navel base in Puerto Rico until the end of the war.
Four years later he graduated from the University of Louisville, with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering and quickly secured a job with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co, retiring in 1994.
David began his walk with Jesus in his early teens, becoming a bible teacher, song leader, frequent preacher, deacon and elder. In his last months, he was known at Grand Brook as the gentleman who always has his bible with him and read it aloud to them while he was able.
As a 5-state sales representative for Goodyear, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, a preacher introduced him to Barbara. Nine months later they were married at the Church of Christ in Idaho Falls, ID, where Barbara and her family lived. In the next eight years they were blessed with five children: Allen, Beth, Rebecca, Deborah and Wade. At his passing their family had grown to 16 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
David was a member of SPEBSQSA, singing baritone in a barber shop quartet during his university years. While living in Utah he fell in love with snow skiing, and later flying. It was his partnership in a Piper Tri-Pacer that provided the vehicle for his frequent courtship visits to Idaho.
In earlier years David enjoyed gymnastics, handball and fly-fishing, and much, much later, picking up leaves in the back yard, one by one. It must be said however, that his primary athletic enjoyment for a number of years involved greens, and a little white ball.
He finished his earthly walk with an ace.
