David Lamar Bigby

David Lamar Bigby passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the age of 74 He was born on September 11, 1949, in Kosciusko, Mississippi.  He is the son of Francis Lorine Townsend and Willie Frank Bigby. He was one of 6 children and was raised in Greenville, Mississippi.

He married Rebecca Victoria “Vicky” Bigby, whom he met at Dan’s BBQ, on September 22, 1971, and had three boys, Michael “Shane” Bigby, William Andrew Bigby, and Anthony David Bigby.

David was a proud Vietnam veteran serving in the United States Army. He lived and worked in various professions in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas but he was most proud of and loved his time as an over the road trucker with the CB handle “Undertaker”. Whenever possible, he loved taking his family on the road with him. He also enjoyed taking his family camping every weekend he was home. His final job of PawPaw was maybe his greatest and proudest achievement.

David is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Billy Bigby and Dwight Bigby, and his son, Shane. He is survived by his wife, Vicky, his sons William (Jennifer) Bigby, and Anthony Bigby. His grandchildren Christopher (Miranda) Bigby, Elisabeth Nicole “Nikki” Bigby, Brad Bigby, and Michael Bigby, his beloved great grandchildren Kinley Bigby (Nikki), Landon Watkins (Nikki) and Brantley Bigby (Chris). He has many beloved nieces and nephews but his nephew Les Bigby, who lost his father Dwight at a very early age, was like another son to David.

A visitation and military funeral will be Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Charles W Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 2926 5^th St, Sachse, TX 75048 at 11 am. There will be an open casket visitation from 10-11 and again after the funeral until 2 pm. David will be cremated following the ceremony with some of his ashes being spread by his fellow truck driver and beloved nephew Les Bigby and fellow truck driver and beloved friend Erving Perez.
