Darrel Lynn Howard, 74, of Wylie, TX passed away on June 6, 2021.
Visitation will be from 6pm-8pm, Monday, June 14, 2021, at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Lavon, TX.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Charles W. Smith Funeral Home, Lavon, TX with Rev. Fr. Tony Densmore of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, officiating. Burial services will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Lavon, TX.
Darrel was born in McKinney, TX to Harold Howard and Irene Wells on January 23, 1947. He graduated from Garland High School in 1965. He married Mary Jo Kapp on May 23, 1966, in Garland, TX. Early in his career, Darrel enjoyed traveling the country and playing in rock and roll bands, such as The Chants and Quest. He also loved drag racing, so he started Racecraft in 1985 to build competitive drag cars. He then transitioned to welding and race car trailer fabrication until retirement. Once retired, Darrel loved riding his Harley Davidson and drag racing slot cars.
Darrel is preceded in death by Harold Howard, father; Irene Wells, mother; Jerry Wells, brother; and Ricky Martin, son-in-law.
He is survived by Mary Jo Howard, spouse; Dawn M. Martin, daughter; Shawn (Melanie) Howard, son; LaDonna Ervin, sister; Mackenzie Martin, granddaughter; Cole Howard, Tate Martin, and Logan Howard, grandsons; Ryleigh Duke, great-granddaughter; and many more family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Howard, Cole Howard, Tate Martin, Dan O'Connell, Mike O'Connell, and Tommy Galbraith.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
