Dr. Darlene S. Ford died at the age of 72 on April 9, 2013, at the Integrity Transitional Hospital in Denton, Texas, after a hard battle with cancer of the liver and the pancreas. Darlene was born on February 21, 1941 in Dallas, Texas to Ledrew Standridge and Ora Garner Standridge. She was educated in
Dallas schools before attending the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University, where she earned BA, MA, and PHD degrees. She taught at Arizona State University and at UNT. She left college teaching to enter private practice as a Mental Health Counselor, serving clients in Collin, Denton, Tarrant and Williamson counties. Late in 2012 she moved to Prosper, Texas, to her dream home, from which she continued to counsel clients until the advance of the diseases forced her to retire in February of this year. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Howard L. Ford, of Prosper, their son, Philip Anthony Ford of Bethesda, Maryland, and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Grady and Dawn Ford of Garland, Texas and Richard and Debbie Ford of Cape Coral, Florida, as well as a sister-in-law Dorothy Standridge, of Madison, Wisconsin and nieces and nephews in California, New York, Wisconsin and Texas.
