Curtis was born in Dallas, Texas to Finus Edward Mitchell and Mamie Estelle Fuller on March 14th, 1941. He graduated from Sunset High school in 1959. He attended and played football at Coffeyville Junior College and North Eastern Oklahoma University. He met the love of his life, Carelyn Louise Evans and married her on August 24th, 1962 in Dallas, Texas. Together they had two children Kindall Kay Mitchell of Dallas and Scott Evan Mitchell of Sachse.
Curtis worked in the bearing and power transmissions industry for over 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and cheering on his Texas Tech Red Raiders and Texas Rangers. After his retirement, you could find Curtis on a golf course, with his wife at the movies, at happy hour at On the Border with his friends, or on a road trip with his son and his family. He savored the moments when his daughter and her wife cooked for him or introduced him to a favorite local restaurant. He adored his niece Kelly and spoiled her often. When he wasn't out and about, he was home curled up with his beloved dog, Annie, and watching everything sports. He loved shooting the breeze and never met a stranger. He was known for his fun-loving sense of humor and kindness. His love for his family was immeasurable and he will be sorely missed.
Curtis is preceded in death by his parents, his only brother Charles Edward Mitchell and Charles' wife Shirley, and his niece Pamela. Curtis is survived by his spouse of 58 years, Carelyn Mitchell, his daughter Kindall Kay Mitchell and spouse Laura Luna, his son Scott Evan Mitchell and wife Teresa, and his grandchildren Jordan Elizabeth, Carson Evan, and Ryan Curtis, as well has his niece Kelly Herrman, and his nephews Charlie, Michael, and Doug.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Association in memory and honor of Curtis Ray Mitchell. Carelyn's friends and co-workers from Collin County Community College are in the process of setting up a scholarship in Curtis' name.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses of Methodist Hospital.
