Cuong was born on July 2, 1963 in Tay Ninh, Vietnam to father, Ngoc Van Tran, and mother, Ba Thi Nguyen, who both love him dearly. He grew up in a large, loving family with one sister and two brothers. He graduated from North Dallas High School and went on to ATI Mechanic School, in which he received a degree in auto mechanics in 1999.
In his high school years, Cuong met and married Selena Haphuong Tran on July 8, 1984. Shortly after marriage, they relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Cuong found a job as a factory worker. There the couple lived and raised two daughters before moving back to Dallas, Texas in 1988. Cuong worked hard for his family to move from an apartment room to a brand new home bought in 1992. The couple raised a third daughter before moving into a larger home in 2002.
Cuong was a hardworking man with a secret love for Chinese dramas and mahjong. He loved to dance and sing Vietnamese karaoke with his wife and children everyday. He would often travel the world and enjoy eating exotic delicacies. When diagnosed with cancer in 2016, Cuong remained dedicated in enjoying life and in his will to fight his illness. He continued driving around in his Lexus convertible and eating at his favorite buffets.
Cuong was an active member of the Chua Dao Quang Temple’s volunteer group. Every year he helped with major events and did any work no one wanted to do. He also contributed greatly towards many charities to help unfortunate families and orphans in Vietnam. Cuong placed others before himself and treated everyone kindly. He fought to the very end and passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Cuong will be cremated and his urn will reside within the aforementioned temple, so that he can listen to Buddhist prayer every morning. By listening to the prayers, it will warm his soul and he can rest in peace in heaven. In loving memory of Cuong Ngoc Tran: He was Compassionate and Selfless; the Greatest Son, Husband, Father, Mentor, Grandfather, and Man. You will always be in our hearts forever and ever.
