Charles Hipkins

Charles "Charlie" Hipkins was born on December 29, 1928 to O.R. Hipkins and Esther Ruth (Ridings) Hipkins in Clarence, Missouri.He graduated from McKinley High School in St. Louis, MO and joined the United States Marine Corps, where he attended the Aviation Technical School at Quanitco, VA. He was also a featherweight boxer in the Marine Corps. He received his degree in Mechanical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. He received his Bachelor of Science at the University of Texas at Dallas, and his Master of Business Administration at North Texas State University. He worked for McDonnell Douglas, Rockwell International, and Mostek Corp. in St. Louis, MO, Cedar Rapids, IA, Dallas, TX, Northern Territory, Australia, and Malaysia.In 1947, Charles married Violet Darlene Sears in St. Louis, Missouri. They had seven children and lived in many locations, including Missouri, Iowa, Texas, and Alice Springs, Australia.He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene, three sons, Keith, Grant, and Cody Hipkins, one daughter, Tracy Gail Harger, and his sister, Patsy Ruth Mahoney.He is survived by one son, Todd Hipkins (Joy), two daughters, Terri Buerk (Tom), and Dixie Halstead (Terry), 18 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren.Charlie was a no nonsense man, very kind and generous. He did not hesitate to help someone, friend or stranger. He enjoyed traveling, long distance bicycling, exploring, and made the most of his 88+ years.
