March 17, 1921 — January 31, 2017

Charles Warren Gallion, Sr., age 95 of Murphy, TX, passed away on January 31, 2017 in Garland, TX. He was born on March 17, 1921 in McDowell County, NC to Jacob Abner and Susan Caroline (Earley) Gallion. Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940 and served in WWII. He was at Fort Shafter on guard duty during the attack on Pearl Harbor and witnessed the planes diving into the harbor. Specializing in anti-aircraft, Charles spent the next years in the Pacific on islands like Canton, Makin and Saipan. His military career in anti-aircraft took him to Alaska, Greenland, multiple US cities, and he ended his military career defending Dallas/Ft. Worth from Air Attack. Charles married Clara Bell Hodge on November 22, 1944 in York, SC, and they were married for 71 years before Clara passed away in November 2016. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wylie.

After retiring from the Army in 1969, Charles started working for Sears, and he worked there until his retirement in March of 1986. Charles spent his years, after he retired, pursuing hobbies such as bead work and lapidary, and he made beautiful pieces of jewelry for Clara and his family and friends. He always had a story and a smile for everyone he met. Charles loved to tell stories about his adventures, and he always had a captive audience when he spoke. He was easy to be around, and everyone enjoyed his company. Charles left a beautiful footprint on this world, and he will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
