Charles Kenneth Dula of Garland, TX died on August 10, 2011.
Born at home in Dallas on January 6, 1937, he was known as Ken or Kenny to most.
He held undergraduate and graduate degrees in liberal arts from SMU and a Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary.
Ken served as a pastor in his early life, taught school in Dallas, worked for years for General Motors, and did many other things, but those who know him best will remember him for his love for God and His word found in the Bible. He spent a great deal of his life in study of God’s word and in sharing the things that the Lord gave him through that study with those he loved.
He had two sons, Timothy and Carey (both of Plano, TX), by his first marriage to Mary Dula. Ken and Mary were married for seventeen years. Later in life, in 1986, he married Katherine ("Kitty") Daubach who had six children by her first husband who had already passed away. Ken greatly loved all of his children and grandchildren; next to Christ and then his wife, they were the greatest blessing of his life. Ken and Kitty spent many happy days talking about their children and grandchildren (and even some great-grandchildren) whom they greatly love.
Ken was married to his loving wife, Katherine Dula, for twenty-five years. His sons well remember that Ken often spoke to them of his love for his dear wife, whom he treasured.
During the last fifteen years of his life, Ken’s health was poor, suffering from Lupus, strokes, and finally Alzheimer’s, which eventually led to his death.
Ken is survived by his wife, Kitty, and his only sister, Veleen Smith of Conway, AR, as well as his children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren and nieces.
What greater blessing can one be in this life than to share with others the good news that God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die for sinners, saving all who come to Him. Ken led both Tim and Carey, his two sons, to Christ at a very early age.
For Ken, we share with you the last thing he read from his Bible.
"Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. " (Hebrews 12:1-2).
By God’s grace, Ken did run that race all the way to the end, never losing faith in Christ.
If he were with us today, he would tell you of the grace of God in Christ alone. May God bless you as He has blessed Ken and Kitty and their family.
We will hold a memorial service for Ken where you are welcome at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20.
