Charles Benners

August 8, 1913 — June 23, 2011

Charles was known to many as Charley, or Papa. He was the 3rd child born to Martha and Frank Benners. He was born in Houston, Texas on August 8, 1913. Charles served in the US Navy during World War II on a minesweeper. He was a Motor Machinist Mate First Class, and helped clear Normandy Bay of mines prior to the Normandy Invasion.

After the war, he returned to Dallas and worked as an engraver at both Morgan and Campbell Engraving companies. During his career, he engraved wedding invitations and announcements for many dignitaries and prestigious events including invitations for Lyndon B. Johnson, while he was President.

Charles was a proud husband, father and grandfather. He was married to his wife May Dell for nearly 64 years. He is survived by his wife, his three children, David and his wife Beth, Nancy and husband Greg, and Tim and wife Wendy. He also has five grandchildren, Chris, Robert and Heather Benners, and Katie and Grace Paschal. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was known for his love of life, his easy-going temperament and his constant willingness to help friends and family. Some of his favorite sayings were, "Don’t fight", "It’s a great life", and "I’m lucky to be alive".

He went to be with his Lord and savior on June 23, 2011. He had a wonderful impact on many lives and will be missed by all who knew him.
