Charles Arthur Adams

October 15, 1929 — October 4, 2012

Charles Arthur Adams, Sr. (‘Charlie’) passed peacefully into the presence of God and His son Jesus on October 4, 2012 at 12:14 A.M.

He was born October 15, 1929 in Kingsport, Tennessee to loving parents, John Sevier Adams and Beatrice Yonce Adams Hendrix. He was an only child, but was one of ninety-two cousins. He was very close to several of his cousins; they grew up as best friends together.

Charlie grew up in Kingsport and attended Dobyns-Bennett High School. He was part of the DB ‘Indians’ football team, the most winning high school team in Tennessee history. He played high school football and earned the nickname ‘Slasher’ because of his speed, quickness and hard-hitting blocking and tackles. He was part of the Class of 1948.

Charlie was very patriotic and loved his country. He served in the United States Air Force from December 14, 1950 to August 14, 1954. He received an Honorable Discharge as Airman 2nd Class. He served at Lowry Air Force Base (Colorado), Connelly Air Force Base (Waco, TX) and in Germany (Air Defense).

He married Barbara Ann Snider on August 2, 1952 at Herring Avenue Methodist Church in Waco, Texas. They had four children: John Thomas Adams (John), Charles Arthur Adams, Jr. (Chuck), Michael Steven Adams (Mike), and Carol Ann Adams (Carol).

Charlie spent several years working as manager of The Modern Laundry in Kingsport, Tennessee, which his family owned. In 1966, Charlie and Barbara moved to Dallas, TX. Charlie continued to work in sales and with his hands as a carpenter/construction until his retirement years ago.

He was a kind, generous and loving man who cared for and loved his wife and family. His life was centered on his family. He loved each and every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild. He was a kind, special man with an especially friendly and loving spirit and way of being.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing. He simply enjoyed the company of other people and liked to talk with and be friends with other people. He was always available to his children and his/Barbara’s parents for their own home repairs, etc. He loved being helpful to other people.

He could build, improve or repair virtually anything connected to a home: carpentry, plumbing (sweated the fittings, did it the old-fashioned way), roofing, water heaters, electrical, etc. If he was missing a part he could usually figure out how to build one.

Additionally, he was ‘into’ history and historical documentaries, especially World War 2, as he had several cousins fighting in it, some of them were wounded.

The final 6 days of his life, he was in lots of pain. Now he has passed into God's presence and is healed and now at peace. We celebrate the positive legacy you have left behind.

Charlie passed away just 11 days from his 83rd birthday. We love you so much, and will miss you immensely.

Legacy: Married to Barbara Ann Snider Adams for 60 years. 4 children, 13 grand-kids, and 14 great grand-kids. He was a kind man who never met a stranger.
