Charity Nicole Lewis

March 9, 1982 — July 26, 2024

Wylie

Charity Nicole Lewis was born on March 9, 1982 in Pampa, Texas to Allen Ray Lewis and Helen (Tate) Lewis. From an early age Charity showed us that she was going to be strong willed and full of fun and laughter. In grade school it became evident that her intelligence was above her fellow students as it was determined she needed advance classes in Math and Science. While she always said she hated Math she excelled at it and had almost completed a double bachelors in both Math and Science. Charity graduated in 2000 with honors from Pala Duro High School in Amarillo, Texas.

Charity’s faith was very real to her, and she loved working in the Lake Point nursery on Saturday nights and holding the newborn babies and other children that came her way. Charity was baptized the first time when she was 6, something the pastor of the church was not sure of until he had a one-on-one conversation with her and came out saying “He would be honored to baptize her.” After years of being in youth groups, church and other functions, she decided she wanted to be re-baptized in her twenties, because she wanted everyone around her to see her devotion and dedication. We talked of her many adventures, but her favorite church trip was her senior year in high school when they went to California and spent a week on an Oceanography Ship off the island of Catalina.

Charity was a kid magnet. I can’t count the number of times we were in a public place and a child would walk up to her and hold up their arms for Charity to pick them up. She got used to the parents looking at her funny and just explained that she worked in a daycare and was a kid magnet…the parents would chuckle and nod their heads that it was okay for her to pick up the child.

Charity loved all things dealing with authors C.S. Lewis and J.K. Rowling. She could talk your leg off with her inside information on the Hobbit (thank you Aunt Cheryl). Charity owned two full sets of the Harry Potter series but was starting to collect the new books that had the lithographs in them.

Charity was called home to Heaven on Friday, July 26th. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Charles and Gladys Tate of Pampa, Texas. Her Aunt Norma Stepps of Duncan, Oklahoma and her Uncle Leroy Tate of Yukon, Oklahoma. Also preceded in her in death are her Paternal grandparents, Tommy and Rudy King of Pampa, Texas.

The surviving family are: her Mother, Helen Tate of the home, her Uncle Charles Tate of Grand Junction, Colorado, her Aunt Mary Laverty of Puyallup, Washington, he Aunt Rosie Tanner of Amarillo, Texas and her Uncle Danny Tate of Duncan, Oklahoma and a Great Uncle Don Rau of La Porte, Texas. Charity was blessed with Honorary family: Grandma Betty Miser, Aunt Penny and Uncle Lyndon Glaesman and Aunt Cheryl (Turtle-Turtle) Olson. Charity had 15 1st cousins and a multitude of great cousins. Other survivors are her Father, Allen Lewis and his wife Betsie of Pampa, Texas, 2 Half-Brothers, Eric and Matthew and Half-Sister, Emilee. Charity had many friends from the towns we have lived in and the churches that we have been blessed to attend.
