With great sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of Cecelia Ann “Chann” Harrison Stanton, beloved wife, Momma, and Mimi. Chann was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before all else. Chann loved deeply and modeled strength and courage as she faced life’s challenges, especially her health issues later in her life. Mimi, her favorite name, was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Chann, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at her home in Sachse, Texas; she was born to Elizabeth Forman and JW "Dub" Harrison, on February 1, 1944, at the home of her beloved grandparents, Belle and Cliff Forman. Chann met Larry Stanton, the love of her life, through a mutual friend in the fall of 1959; they were married on June 15, 1962 in Garland, Texas, and together they raised 2 children, Shannon Leigh Stanton King and Shelli Lynn Stanton Pryor. Chann graduated from Garland High School in 1962 and was a Jack-of-all-Trades throughout her adult life; however, her favorite “job” was the one as Momma and Mimi.
Growing up, Momma was always there for her family and friends, whether they needed help with homework or a shoulder to cry on. Chann was a woman of strong faith and she instilled in us the importance of family, hard work, education, and doing what is right. Most of the family’s favorite memories of Chann revolve around the outdoors - Mom loved flowers and gardening. Growing up we remember Mom working in her huge vegetable garden, and then sharing, canning, and putting up all the vegetables she grew. Mom also loved the beach and going to the lake; in her later years, she loved sitting on the back porch, tending to her baskets of plants, watching the birds, squirrels, cows, and pets. Most of all, Chann loved being a grandmother - she was very proud of her grandchildren and she figured out social media just so she could keep tabs on the lives of her children, grandchildren, and friends, near and far.
Chann is survived by her husband of almost 61 years, Larry Stanton; her children - Shannon Stanton King and her husband, Mike, and Shelli Stanton Pryor; her grandchildren - Jaret and Kali King, Trinity King, Avery King, Cassidy Cooper, Jacob Pryor, Holly Pryor, Meagan Pryor, and Courtney Pryor; and her great-grandchildren, London, Paris, soon-to-be-here Scotland, Scoutt, Charley, Carter, and Cove. Chann is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Richard Neal; sister and brother-in-law, Jeri and Mike Harrison; her nieces and nephews - Shelia and Skip Gayken and family, Kelli Harrison, Jason Harrison and family, Kevin and Jana Harrison and family, and Scott and Aimee Harrison and family; and practically family friends - Phil Bush, Bob Bolton, Kirk Pryor, and Tony and Kami Blassingame and family. Chann was preceded in death by beloved parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and brother, Jerry Harrison and his wife, Donna.
