Randy Blackwell

Carlton Randell Blackwell Jr., Randy, was born on June 5, 1961 in Waco Texas. He was the third born to the late Carlton Blackwell Sr. and Jean McCord, with older siblings, Jesse Blackwell and Sally Whitfield. He graduated from Connelly High School in 1979, where he was voted most talented in his class.

Randy moved to Dallas Texas in the late 80’s to pursue his dreams of being a musician. He played in many bands throughout his years and never gave up his dream. If you knew Randy, you knew he was an amazing and passionate guitar player. No matter the age, he was always perfecting his craft. He played his guitar until his final days.

In 1986, he married Janeen Allen. They welcomed their first boy, John Ray Blackwell, in 1996. Their baby girl, Jean Blackwell, was born in 1998. Randy was a wonderful father who loved his children more than anything in the world. Ray is currently attending The Musicians Institute College to further his education and is playing with his band around the Houston area. Jean graduated from the University of Houston and has been working every day since. Randy was beyond proud of his children’s accomplishments.

Randy was an extremely hard working man. Through late night practice and gigs that lasted until the early morning, he still made it to work on time. He worked at United Mechanical in Dallas from 1986 until 2023, when he passed.

On October 6th 2023, Randy passed away. His life was cut short after a battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. He was survived by his brother and sister, both of his children, and many nieces and nephews.
