Brendan Gahan, age 88, of Wylie, TX, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 1, 2022. He was born in Providence, RI on July 24, 1933, and was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen (Wade) Gahan.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Luhman) Gahan, the love of his life, his daughter, Karyn Leonard and her husband, Bryan, grandchildren, Zachary Leonard and his wife, Jillian, Cody Leonard and Payton Leonard, brother, Gerard Gahan, sister, Regina Gahan, and several nieces and nephews.
Brendan served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, achieved a BA in English from Providence College, and a EdM in Secondary Education and English from RI College. He spent 36 years as an educator, teaching English at East Providence Senior High School, then as the English dept head at Seekonk High School, and Vice Principal at the RI Vocational School, as well as a Teacher and Principal at Christian Schools.
He also traveled to England to study Scripture and Theology at Capernwray Bible School where he received an Advanced Biblical Diploma.
He served in ministry for the Lord in Massachusetts as an Elder at Bethany Gospel Chapel for 10 years and as an Elder at Dartmouth Bible Church for 20 years.
For many years he sang songs, told jokes, acted in many plays and vociferously cheered on his beloved Boston Red Sox. He also loved sharing the gospel and reaching people for the Lord.
When he and his wife settled in Wylie, TX in 2013 to be near his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, he continued serving in Christian ministry at a local assisted living and memory care home, teaching ESL at Murphy Road Baptist Church, and preaching the gospel at Bridge Community Fellowship.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Murphy Road Baptist Church, 411 S Murphy Rd, Murphy TX, on July 16 at 10:00 AM and will also be available by livestream on the church's Facebook and YouTube sites. A reception at the same location will follow the service. A graveside service will be held on a date to be determined in August at Vinnicum Woods Cemetery in Swansea, MA.
