Brenda Joyce Brown

February 8, 1954 — January 23, 2020

Brenda "JOYce" Brown, 65, passed away surrounded by her family, on January 23, 2020. Joyce was born in Borger, Texas on February 8, 1954. She and the love of her life, Jimmy Brown, eloped on February 16, 1970.

Joyce was a selfless wife and mother of six, with an amazing capacity to love. Her love and joy could be palpably felt by all who knew her and met her. Her greatest loves included her first and only love and soulmate, Jimmy, their six children, her sixteen grandchildren, and her great-grandchild.
Spoiling her grandkids and attending their various activities and sporting events as often as she could brought her great happiness. She had an opportunity to pour into the lives of many of her grandchildren as a daytime caregiver prior to their schooling, and they are forever blessed by that.

Joyce's loves included reading, collecting dolls and pig figurines, going on cruises, raising her chickens, and hosting family get-togethers where she could enjoy a noisy house filled with her favorite people. Her cooking was always a staple of any gathering, with unmatched recipes for potato salad, cornbread dressing, and brisket.

Joyce spent most of her career caring for children in her home, bookended by many years spent in retail, where her co-workers also had the opportunity to become part of her family.

She lived her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, every day. Loving the Lord was a priority for her and she truly exemplified the words of the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Ephesians in Chapter 4, verse 32 that reads " 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

Joyce was the cherished wife of Jimmy Brown; loving mother to Jamie and Cindy Brown, Kristel and Sean Hanlon, Erica and Oscar Sherman, Ashle' and Branden Measles, Chelcie and Kyle Wilson, Baylee and Madison Brown; Adored Nana to James Brown, Hunter Brown, Brendan Hanlon, Jordan Sherman, Brock Sherman, Logan Hanlon, Kelsea Measles, Samantha Brown, Haden Sherman, Haven Brown-Cerny, Dakota Measles, Harley Cerny, Braylen Measles, Harper Brown-Winget, Kash Wilson, Krew Wilson, (great grandson) James Brown V; Loving daughter to Zella Mae and Carl Jones and Donna Lea Waugh; Adored sister to Danny Waugh and Rick Waugh; also lovingly survived by sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Waugh, sister, Drenda Thompson, grandfather. D.L. Roden, and grandmother, Vadie Roden.
