Billy Edward Wood

Billy Edward Wood, age 83 of Garland TX, passed away on April 15, 2017 at his home. Born in 1933, Bill was the first of five children born to Gaylord Wesley and Lillie Viola Wood in Big Spring Texas. As a child, he was introduced to a love like he had not encountered. This was the Love of Jesus Christ and was so tangible to Bill that it would not only prove to transform his life and his eternity, but would spill out and affect virtually everyone around him. Bill discovered a passion in showing this love to people and by leaving a positive impact on lives everywhere he went.

In 1968, Bill married his true love, Elsie Gaye Hawbaker, in Dallas Texas. For Bill, the most natural way to SHOW his love to his family was through hard work and being the best provider that he could be.Throughout his career, he discovered that by combining his love of people with his desire to be a provider brought more than mere satisfaction, it brought delight.

You didn’t have to know Bill long to discover that he passionately loved talking about his work, lives that he encountered, and how those lives were impacted.Bill found that this passion led him to perhaps the most satisfying and rewarding calling of his life as the Director of Facilities at Northland Cathedral Church in Kansas City, Missouri.Here, Bill was truly in his element as learned to fully mesh his infectious love of people as well as his hard work ethic in a manner that couldn’t be contained. Even after retirement, his love of people and of providing led him to work at Home Depot, where he affected lives around him until he was called home on April 15. Above all, it was obvious that Bill was driven by his love of Christ, and of his wife and family.

Bill is survived by his wife, Gaye Wood; three sons, Glen Wood, Jeff Wood, and Kelly Wood; one daughter, Misty Hanson; nephew Paul Thorson, whom he loved as his own; one sister, Gaylene Wood; eleven grandchildren, Andrew Wood, Sydney Neff, Hope Hammons, Gavin Wood, Tate Hammons, Kellen Hammons, Macie Thorson, Karlie Thorson, Levi Thorson, Austin Wood, and Ashtyn Wood; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2017 at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Northplace Church, 2800 Pleasant Valley Rd., Sachse, TX 75048, with Pastor Bryan Jarrett officiating.
